Drawing scale on layout block

Post by crstn » Fri Nov 14, 2025 1:47 pm

Hi

I am new to QCad so please bear with me ...

I haved searched a lot for an answer to my question, so maybe the question is wrong, but:

I have made a relatively simple floor plan, and I want to print it via a viewport in a layout block.

What I can't figure out is how to read/find the scale of my drawing as it is shown on my sheet of A4 paper.

In the properties of the viewport it has a scale of '0.97', which is certainly not the scale of my 9,44 m wide building shown on a 210 mm wide piece of paper ...

When printing directly from the model space I can scale the drawing to 1:67, which makes sense, but where do I find/set that scale when printing via a layout block?

Any advice is much appreciated!

Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.

If one edits a Paper_Space block or Layout then QCAD turns on the print preview mode.
Each Layout Block has its own specific paper scale that may differ from a simple print preview of Model_Space.
Essentially the parameters of the Layout 'Model' and stored in the global Drawing Preferences

Before there was a scale field in the Options Toolbar when viewing a Layout Block.
In recent QCAD releases one can change the paper scale by clicking on the 'Page Settings' button.

While creating a Viewport one can set the scale before defining the second corner.
The scale of a selected Viewport can be altered using the Property Editor.

I would not scale the content of my Viewport but use a paper scale for everything in the same scale on paper.
But you can of course add a Viewport of some details in another scale.

Regards,
CVH

When using layout blocks, the paper scale mentioned above should always be 1 or 1:1 (default). I.e. whatever you draw into the layout block directly (drawing border, drawing header, etc.) is drawn 1:1.

Individual viewports can be scaled to display part of your drawing at a particular scale (e.g. 1:67 in your example).

If you can attach your drawing file, we can help you more efficiently (see forum rules at the top in red).

Your paper space had an arbitrary scale.
I've attached the drawing as I would recommend to arrange and scale it: paper space 1:1, viewport for example 1:100.
